Why Tooth Whitening Works

Everybody wants to have a set of teeth so white it could rival that of Hollywood's A-listers. It's easy to have that same kind of pearly white smile with a procedure called tooth whitening or also known as dental bleaching.

There are various ways to go about dental bleaching. Some of these are bleaching pen, bleaching strips, laser bleaching, bleaching gel and natural bleaching. Whitening the teeth is a common procedure done by almost everybody these days.

Some prefer to cut costs and just do their own version of dental bleaching by placing over-the-counter strips that contain whitening ingredients to the front of their teeth. Others, on the other hand, apply a whitening gel, usually Ionic White, to their teeth. Whatever method it is, the process is ultimately one and the same.

The products contain oxidizing agents that whitens the tooth. If a do-it-yourself tooth whitening kit doesn't work, one can always consult with a dentist for a more professional advice. A dentist can perform laser whitening that is a faster way to whiten the teeth-and also much more expensive but effective nonetheless.

It's important to remember that you cannot expect your whitened teeth to last forever. Although it can go on for up to several months, the extent of the effect still depends on one's lifestyle. If you're a heavy smoker and an avid coffee drinker, you should expect the effect of the whitening procedure to fade off much faster since these are all factors in the speedier discoloration of the teeth.
